Turdas [ turdaʃ ] ( German Tordesch, Hungarian Tordos or Tordas ) is a municipality in the district of Hunedoara in Transylvania, Romania.

Geographical location

The community Turdas located on the left bank of the Mureş ( Maros ), in the southwest of the Transylvanian basin north of the Sureanu Mountains ( Muhlbacher Mountains). In the middle of the circle, the community is located in the historic lower forest. At the same stream, the county road (Drum Judetean ) DJ 709G - about 1.5 km from European Route 68 is removed - and the railway line Arad - Alba Iulia located, the place is located about 7 miles west of the small town Orăştie ( Broos ); the district capital Deva ( Deva ) is located about 20 kilometers west of Turdas away.

In an area ( according to different data) of 2013 hectares or 3278 acres, the three eingemeindeten villages located 4-9 kilometers away from the community center.

History

The place Turdas was first mentioned in documents in 1332. The place was founded by the Saxons was ravaging the early 15th century by the Turkish invasions, then settled with Hungarian and Romanian population.

However, the history of settlement in the region dates back far longer. In the southwest of the village Turdas - called by the locals La lunca - numerous archaeological finds from the Neolithic period have been for a distance of about a mile and 500 meters wide, between the Mureş and the railway line, made ​​. The finds are now in Romania, as well as in museums of Budapest, Berlin, Vienna and Stockholm. The largest part of the settlement found Mures was destroyed by erosion in the 20th century. The excavations in 1910 and 1934 could be no conclusive results of the stratigraphy of the site.

The residents now live mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry.

Population

At the official survey of 1850 1.858 inhabitants were registered on the territory of the present municipality. 1,671 of these were Romanians, Magyars were 160 and 27 of them were Roma. The highest population ( 2,280) of the church today and at the same time the Romanians ( 2155 ) was determined in 1977. The highest population of Roma ( 384 ) in 2002, which the Magyars (160 ) 1850, and the Saxons (18 ) 1890 registered. Furthermore, in 1956, three residents called the Ukrainians, 1910 a Slovak has been registered. As of the 2002 census, 1,955 people were counted in Turdas. Of these, 1,534 Romanians, 384 were Roma, 34 were Hungary and three residents identified themselves as German.

On 31 August 2011, at a preliminary census in the community Turdas, in 712 households 1,824 people were counted.
