Turgay Åžeren

Turgay Şeren ( born May 15, 1932 in Ankara ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper, coach and commentator. He is currently a newspaper columnist and expert football on TV. Nicknames for players times was Panther of Berlin. With increasing age, his hair loss increased, therefore it is also called Yoda.

Playing career

Şeren played from 1949 to 1966 for Galatasaray.

National

For the Turkish national football team, he completed 46 games. His game against West Germany in 1951 in Berlin stands out here. With his saves during the game, he secured the team a 2-1 victory. Since this game he is referred to as Berlin Panteri (Panther of Berlin).

Şeren belonged in the first game of the Turkish U-21 national team, which was played on October 28, 1950 as part of the Mediterranean Cup against the Egyptian U-21 national team, for use.

Coaching career

After the end of his football playing career Şeren worked about a decade as a football coach. As his first role, he was responsible in the season 1968/69 the then first division club Mersin Idman Yurdu. At season's end, he left this club and moved within the league to Vefa Istanbul. After he had looked after one season Vefa, he took over the Turkish first division side Samsunspor north.

For the summer of 1971 he took over one more time Mersin IY and coached this club for two years.

Before the sixth round of the 1979/80 season, he took over from retiring Coşkun Özarı as coach of Galatasaray. This club he supervised until the end of season and finished a disappointing ninth place in the table. After this, he worked not as a trainer and began working as a football commentator.
