The Turkmen Magtymguly State University ( Turkmen Magtymguly adyndaky Türkmen döwlet uniwersiteti, Russian Туркменский государственный университет им. Магтымгулы ) is the largest and most important university in Turkmenistan. It was founded in 1950 in the capital, Ashgabat, when the country was still part of the Soviet Union. The University now consists of six faculties and is named after the Turkmen poets of the 18th century Magtymguly Pyragy. The lectures are usually held on Turkmen and Russian.
