The Turnerkamp (Italian: Cima di Campo) is with 3418 meters, the fifth highest mountain in the main ridge of the Zillertal Alps. He is exactly on the border between Austria, Tyrol, and Italy, Autonomous Province of Bolzano -Alto Adige. He was first climbed in the 1860s by a local farmer named Johann Kirchler from Luttago in Ahrntal. The first tourist commission in 1872 by the English mountaineer WH Hudson, C. Taylor and R. Pendlebury, led by Gabriel Spechtenhauser and Georg Samer.

Location

The Turnerkamp is located about eight kilometers in a straight line north of Lappach in Lappacher valley and 12 kilometers south of Mayrhofen district Ginzling. He has by his height and massive expansion of a large geographical dominance. Adjacent peaks are the 3146 meter high peak V. Horn and to the west, separated by the Rossruggscharte ( 3229 m) the Rossruggspitze with 3304 meters in the east. To the north of the Turnerkamp drops across the glacier Hornkees to Black Stone Alpe (2050 m) in the Berliner Hut, to the south runs a long south ridge with the interior Sattelnock ( Schneenock ) ( 3073 m) down to the fantastic 2853 meters Pfaff notch. This south ridge, called saddle cutting, separating the two glaciers Eastern Nöfesferner ( located to the west ) and the east of the ridge located Trattenbachkees each other. North of the Turner Kamps is the Hornkees.

Bases and routes

The way the British alpinists on June 25, 1872 began at four in the morning at the clock Waxeckalpe and resulted in a southerly direction over the Waxeckkees, a Einschartung of Rossrugg on above Hornkees and the Rossruggscharte south below the west ridge to the summit, the nine clock has been reached.

Today's normal route up the Turner Kamp, through the southwestern flank. The starting point here is the Chemnitz hut ( Rifugio Giovanni Porro ) at 2419 meters above sea level, above Weissbach in Ahrntal. From the hut there is a marked with cairns way north on the western side moraine of East Nevesferner. Then it goes as high tour, with proper equipment and experience, through the eastern terminus of the glacier at Turner Kamp- south ridge over towards Rossruggscharte. Then, the route runs right through channels ( rockfall ) on the southwest flank in moderately difficult climbing in the UIAA grade II steeply to the summit. Walking time is according to the literature five hours. Also from the Berliner Hütte ( 2042 m ), the Turnerkamp be climbed. From here, a red- marked path to the south leads east along the Rossruggens ( Ross back) up over the top of the Hornkees ( high way) to Rossruggscharte, then as above on the southwest flank of the summit according to the literature in seven hours.
