Turnow- Preilack, Lower Turnow- Pśiłuk, is a municipality in the district of Spree- Neisse in Brandenburg.

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the southeast of Brandenburg in Lower Lusatia in the traditional settlement area of ​​the Sorbs / Wends. By the southernmost part of the community flow in a westerly direction, the Malxe and Hammergraben.

History

Turnow arose as a result of the construction of fortress Peitz in the 16th century and was first mentioned in 1567 under the name New Peiz. Because many people lost their land because of the fortifications, they settled near a sheep farm to new, from which arose the first Vorwerk Turnow. The place Turnow has a special feature on a homonymous German and Sorbian name. To place Turnow part of the tower mill built in 1858. The village was set on fire by Swedish troops during the Thirty Years' War in 1641. The community Turnow- Preilack was taken on December 31, 2001 the voluntary merger of the previously independent municipalities Turnow and Preilack.
