Turoš

Túrós ( German: Turosch ) is a Croatian traditional regional cow's milk cheese specialty, the ( northern Croatia ) is distributed mainly in the region Međimurje. This cheese is made from a kind of cream cheese ( quark or cottage cheese -like) with a few ingredients and spices made ​​.

Production and Properties

The prepared fresh cheese made from cow's milk, the ground red pepper, salt, garlic and cumin are added and mixed together, so that the mixture gets a pale-orange or apricot color. Then the regular cones (sometimes 8 cm ) made ​​( cones) in the height of about 6 cm from this prepared ground. The so -crafted pieces must Túrós about three days to dry in the sun and mature, so that they are ready to serve. They can also be smoked and thus get a special taste.

Túrós is in Međimurje very often made in peasant self-production, but also industrially ( in small dairies ). The name " Túrós " is Túró from the Hungarian word, or derived túrós and means curd or cottage cheese.

Use

Túrós is mainly used as a snack or appetizer. This specialty is eaten directly, served alone or with bread, onion and pickles, or as part of cold cuts.
