Turquestein-Blancrupt

Turquestein- Blancrupt ( German Turk Stone ) is a commune with 20 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region, about 20 km south of Sarrebourg located in the Vosges.

The community is located 30 km ² and consists largely of mountains and forests in the headwaters of the White Saar north of Donons. It was formed in 1791 and is named after the ruins of the castle Turquestein, which was built in the late 10th century and destroyed in the Thirty Years' War by the French. A central place, there are not twenty people live scattered on small farms; a village called Turquestein although there was in the Middle Ages, it was destroyed in 1433.

The western half of the municipality consists of the Forêt de Turquestein ( Türk Steiner forest ), the eastern half of the Forêt de Saint -Quirin (Saint Quiriner Forest), in the middle lies the valley of the White River Saar, which is also called Blancrupt ( Small White Creek Valley ).

Turquestein belongs since 1661 to France. In the Middle Ages it was still on German language area, but is now frankophon for centuries. In 1880 was of 130 inhabitants at that time only three families in German, who belonged to the faith of the Mennonites.
