Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Alabama and has an area of 3500 square kilometers, of which 70 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Walker County, Jefferson County, Bibb County, Hale County, Greene County, Pickens County and Fayette County.

History

Tuscaloosa County was formed on February 6, 1818. The name comes from the dialect of Choctaw Indians for the Black Warrior River, or by other sources after the Choctaw chieftain Tuskalusa.
