Tuscan order

(Also known as rustication, tuskische or Etruscan Regulation) The Tuscan order is one of the five classical orders of columns. In the hierarchy of the orders it occupies the lowest place.

Historical development

It was introduced in ancient Roman architecture as a variant of the Doric style. In the multi-storey facade design, it serves as the bottom floor.

Structure of the Tuscan order

The structure of the Tuscan order corresponds to the basic features of the Doric order.

The Tuscan column has a base against the Doric. In the column shaft, the fluting is missing, that is, there are no grooves available. The capital is mostly unadorned.

The entablature was, as with the early Greek forms, first in wood and not of stone.
