TV on the Radio

TV on the Radio is a Founded in 2001, American avant-garde and indie rock band from New York. Their music consists of a range of post-punk, jazz, a cappella / doo-wop, psychedelia, to trip-hop.

Members

The core of the band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals / loops), Kyp Malone (vocals, guitars, loops) and David Andrew Sitek (music, guitars, keyboards, loops ). At concerts, but they are accompanied by a full band. Even on their albums, they are often supported by other musicians, such as Jaleel Bunton (drums), Gerard Smith (bass ), both official members, Katrina Ford of the group Celebration (vocals), Martin Perna (flute, alto - and baritone saxophone) from Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and Nick Zinner (guitar) of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. At Gerard Smith was diagnosed during the recording of the album Nine Types of Light lung cancer, the consequences of which he died on 20 April 2011 ( shortly after the release of the album ).

History

The title of their first album OK Calculator was an allusion to the Radiohead album OK Computer. The majority of this album is very different from their later pieces that also include electro, hip hop and turntablism. Thereafter, Kyp Malone member of the band and they released the EP Young Liars and the album Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes, which was very well received by the critics. They received also the Shortlist Music Prize. Later, a second EP New Health skirt, also the new track New Health skirt, a cover version of the song Modern Romance of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Wrong Way who had previously appeared on Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes contained.

Other musical activities

The founding member David Andrew Sitek has also produced tracks with other bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Celebration and the Liars.

This and That

Hurricane Katrina was the piece Dry Drunk Emperor record for TV on the Radio the occasion, which can be downloaded free of charge from the website of the label.

The band's name was used as a recognition sentence "This is TV on the radio" also by British DJ Tommy Vance based on the initials of his pseudonym.

TV on the Radio is one of the favorite bands of David Bowie, who also worked on the background vocals for the piece Province on the album Return to Cookie Mountain.

The song Staring at the Sun was played at the Autumn / Hiver -Haute couture show for Chanel in 2005. Also, the song in the trailer of the 2010 German film The 4th Revolution - Energy Autonomy used.

The song Wolf like Me was both for the ski movie Seven Sunny Days by Matchstick Productions, in Activision's music game Guitar Hero 5, and in the PC and console game Need for Speed: used ProStreet by Electronic Arts, as well as Project Gotham Racing 4 by Bizarre Creations.

The song Will Do ( My Love ) in 2011 was used in the video game FIFA 12.
