TV3 (Viasat)

TV3 is the name of television channels from Viasat in the countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. The transmitters are in contrast to most other broadcasters Viasat family freely receivable and offer entertainment related programs, primarily with the U.S. series and feature films. All TV channels are broadcast by Viasat from London. Viasat is part of the Swedish Modern Times Group.

History

TV3 was initiated by January Stenbeck and launched on 31 December 1987 as the first purely commercial television channel in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Initially the transmitter sent from London to the same program for all three Scandinavian countries. The name arose from the former dominance of Sveriges Television, with its two channels. First, the Danish version split off and after some time there was also separate channels for Norway and Sweden. With the commissioning of an Astra satellite in 1989, the reception for clients improved significantly. In the same year was also the first daughter channel, the pay TV channel TV1000 started. In 1991, a joint program block with the TV4 was launched, which later evolved into ZTV. This was the first year that TV3 was in the black.

In the 1990s created subsidiaries in the Baltic States and 2000 sister channels in Hungary and Russia.

Lithuania

On 11 April 1993 the station began under the name Tele -3 with the broadcast of the national program in Lithuania. In 1996 the company was insolvent, then acquired by Viasat and continue to operate under its present name.
