Tweants dialect

Twents is a Lower Saxon dialect ( Nedersaksisch or Neersassies ). It is spoken by the inhabitants of Twente in the Dutch province of Overijssel. The Lower Saxony is next to Limburg and Frisian officially recognized in the Netherlands under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Twents is spoken everywhere in the Twente there because of the dialect continuum in the region or from place to place some differences, both in pronunciation and in vocabulary. In the vocabulary Twents has many loan words from Dutch, and it is written on the practices of the Dutch orthography, because the non-regulated writing language in the region is sooner rather Middle Dutch ( Netherlands territory ) than Middle Low German. Therefore, written texts differ in the Westphalian Twents identifiable from the texts of the border Westphalia or Lower Saxony dialects in North West Germany, but not in the debate.

The Van Deinse Institute in Enschede, which since 2006 is part of the Museum TwentseWelle, deals with the culture in the region of Twente, the folklore, culture, history and especially with the regional language.
