Tweng is one of the 15 municipalities in the district Tamsweg in Salzburg in Austria with 424 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

The municipality is located in Salzburg's Lungau land on the south side of the Radstadt Tauern. By the end of January 1962, the village belonged to the court of the district of Sankt Michael im Lungau, since February 1, 1962, she is part of the judicial district Tamsweg.

History

Tweng is an ancient settlement, which lies on the major, existing in Roman times road over the Radstadt Tauern pass. Roman milestones among the most important archaeological finds. Since 1745 there is a school in Tweng.

The coat of arms of the municipality is: " In a split by a narrow silver inclined plate above right bar in green the trophy of a silver Twelve Enders, below in red a silver sechsspeichiges cartwheel. "

The municipality owns a part of the other lifts.

In Tweng there are some hotels and pensions.

Church

1664 a chapel was built in 1665 followed by the laying of the cornerstone for the church, which was in 1705, consecrated by the Lord Bishop of Lavant, Johann Sigmund Graf von Kuenburg.

1844 should Tweng loud Ignaz von Kürsinger its organ (6 register, 1 manual and pedal ) are obtained, which was prepared by the active use of the Expositus Reisinger and the charitable contributions of the small community.
