Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit

Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit ( TEU Abbreviation, German standard containers) is an international standard unit for counting of ISO containers of various sizes and to describe the loading capacity of ships and handling of terminals in container transport.

Then there are the Forty- foot Equivalent Unit ( FEU Abbreviation ):

Charge technically have 2 TEU same footprint as one FEU.

The dimensions of the container are standardized. A 40 -foot container is exactly 40 feet long ( 12.192 meters). However, a 20 -foot container is only 19 feet 10 ½ inches ( 6.058 meters) long, because two such containers behind the other must be as long as a 40 -foot container, with a clearance of 3 inches (7.62 cm) remains.

The width is uniform 8 feet ( 2.438 meters ), the standard height of 8 feet 6 inches = 8 ½ feet ( 2,591 meters). Spreads are also heights of 8 feet ( 2.438 meters) and 9 feet 6 inches = 9 ½ feet ( 2,895 meters). The different heights are not included in the unit.
