Twin (windowing system)

Twin ( Text Based Window Manager ) is a written by Massimiliano Ghilardi text-based desktop environment for Unix and Unix-like systems. It is released as free software under the GPL and the LGPL.

History

1991 Twin was developed by Ghilardi DOS-based. Since DOS does not support multitasking, no foreign programs could be used under Twin. 1999 ported Ghilardi for Linux and expanded it greatly.

There are now numerous extensions such as X11 support, network integration and a built- console emulator for Twin.
