Twist and Shout (German: , twisting and shouting ') is a published on July 12, 1963 EP by British rock band The Beatles. It was the first EP of The Beatles, which was released on Parlophone (catalog number GEP 8882 ). All four tracks of the EP are from the album Please Please Me, the debut album of the group. The EP was released only in mono.
Background
At the time of publication of their first UK EP, the dominant position of the Beatles recorded, at least in the UK from this. Their debut album, Please Please Me was for several weeks at number 1 on the UK album charts, the eponymous single reached # 2 on the singles chart and From Me to You, the follow-up single, was ranked since May 4, 1963 1
In a statement, her record company to the British music magazine Melody Maker, the choice of the title of the first EP was based on the huge demand for the Beatles' version of Twist and Shout. Shortly after the announcement of the EP were loud EMI pre-orders for more than 50,000 recordings before.
In the first four days after its publication 150,000 copies had been sold. By November 1963, the EMI reported 650,000 copies sold. The EP not only reached number one in the charts of the Record Retailer EP, but also # 2 on the singles charts of Melody Maker and # 4 on the singles charts of New Musical Express ( NME ). It was the first EP, which was also placed in the NME singles charts. The EP became the fourth best-selling recordings of the year 1963 in the UK.

The selection of songs made sure that each of the three main singer of the Beatles sang a song that John Lennon sang the title song Twist and Shout, Paul McCartney sang the ballad A Taste of Honey and George Harrison sang Do You Want to Know a Secret one of the two Lennon / McCartney compositions of EP. There's a Place sang Lennon and McCartney as a duet.

Reissues
The EP Twist and Shout was pressed up in the 1970s. In December 1981, the EP was released as part of the box set The Beatles EP Collection, containing all British EPs. On 26 May 1992, this set was published as a CD issue.
