Twosret

Tausert, also Tauseretsetepenmut, was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty ( New Kingdom ). They reigned from 1193 bis 1190/1188 BC

Family

Queen Tausert was the Great Royal Wife of Seti II and stepmother of King Siptah.

Rule

First, she led from 1198 to 1193 BC, the regency ( " great princess of the whole country " on the Bilgai stele ) for their still immature about 14 -year-old stepson Siptah, with the support of influential officials Bay ("great treasurer of the whole country "). King Siptah died in his sixth year of reign. Hartwig Altenmüller has shown that this date may be set just before the Opet festival in his last year of reign. This feast is Tausert could be ceremonially confirmed by the gods in the line of succession. They laid claim to the kingship, and took, as Hatshepsut 300 years before, the full title of the Pharaohs.

Tausert counted Siptah government years to their time. In its seventh year of the reign the orientation of the valley festival is occupied in 1191 BC.

End of the reign

In her last years in government, the political situation deteriorated rapidly and lawlessness and looting were common. The Papyrus Harris I, which is in the British Museum, and a stela from Elephantine also report that even the gods were no more victims. Sethnacht, whose origin is unknown, claiming to be chosen himself king by the sun god, to put an end to lawlessness. This was followed by prolonged disputes. 1190 BC took over Sethnacht first the rule before it in 1188 BC [A 2] reigned from 10 Payni (11 March ) to Tausrets death alone.

Construction

Besides her grave her only the following structures could be assigned: A temple in the city of Ramses and an unfinished mortuary temple, which is located on the West Bank, between the systems of Thutmose IV and Merneptah.

Grave

The grave of Tausert is KV14 in the Valley of the Kings, which has to have a checkered history: New findings show that her grave was already part under Seti II and not, as previously assumed in the second year of the reign Siptah. As reigning queen then designed this grave with the elements of a royal tomb. Sethnacht, the first ruler of the 20th Dynasty mummy removed her from the grave, let change the inscriptions and built the grave to create for themselves. Doubt that Queen Tausert was really buried in this grave, cherish Hartwig Altenmüller and Nicholas Reeves.
