Ty Detmer

Ty Hubert Detmer ( born October 30, 1967 in San Marcos, Texas ) is an American former American football player at the position of quarterback. He played college football for the Brigham Young University and won the 1990 Heisman Trophy. From 1992 to 2005 he played for several teams in the National Football League ( NFL).

Life

Detmer played from 1987 to 1991 (since 1989 it belonged to the starting grid ) College football for the Cougars of Brigham Young University and won during this time with the team three championships of the Western Athletic Conference. In addition, in 1990 he was awarded the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien Award. A year later, he finished third in the Heisman voting. He also received in 1991 for the second time the Davey O'Brien Award as well as the Sammy Baugh Trophy as the best pass thrower. In addition, he was both in 1990 and in 1991 elected to the editors of various sports All-American. During his studies, which he finished with a degree in leisure management, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints, in whose ownership the Brigham Young University is located.

The NFL Draft 1992, he was selected by the Green Bay Packers, for which he as the second quarterback after Brett Favre, however, hardly used from 1992 to 1995. In the years 1996 and 1997 he played for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he entered the starting lineup after an injury by Rodney Peete. After the San Francisco 49ers, he played in 1998 and served there as the second quarterback Steve Young, he moved a year later to the Cleveland Browns, where he was active in the years 1999 and 2000. He then spent 2001-2003 three seasons with the Detroit Lions. His last position in the NFL were the Atlanta Falcons in which he, however, as the third quarterback after Michael Vick and Matt Schaub came in the years 2004 and 2005 to no use. In 14 seasons in the NFL, he played in 54 games, including 25 on the grid.

After the end of his professional career he worked until 2009 at the company Triton Financial Corporation. Since 2009 he is a football coach a high school team in Austin. Ty Detmer is married and the father of four daughters. His brother Koy Detmer played as a quarterback for the Colorado Buffaloes University of Colorado at Boulder and in the NFL from 1997 to 2006 for the Philadelphia Eagles and 2007 for the Minnesota Vikings.

In 2012, Ty Detmer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
