Ty Lawson
Tywon "Ty " Ronell Lawson ( born November 3, 1987 in Clinton, Maryland ) is an American professional basketball player. He was elected to the NBA Draft 2009, 18 out of the Minnesota Timberwolves and transferred directly to the Denver Nuggets, where he plays since then. Before that he played at the University of North Carolina and was awarded the title of the ACC Player of the Year. He was the first point guard since 1978, who received this award.
Life and career
High School
Ty Lawson first visited the Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland. He later moved to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. He also participated in many tournaments, such as the McDonald 's All- American Game and the Nike Hoop Summit. In his senior year, he went to 23.8 points per game, 9.1 assists and 5 steals.
College
In the season 2006/2007 Lawson played for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. In his junior season he scored in 38 games 10.2 points per game and 5.6 assists. In addition, he helped his team to the title of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the regular season. In his sophomore year, Lawson scored 12.7 points per game and 5.8 assists. However, he missed a few games due to an ankle injury. In 2009 he won with his team the National College - NCAA title. Lawson was awarded the title of the ACC Player of the Year. He also won the Bob Cousy Award (best college point guard ). He averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 assists and 2.1 steals. With its 8 steals in a final match Lawson broke the record for most steals in a championship game. On 6 June 2008, he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol. His values were below the permitted level, but he was nevertheless punishable, since the drinking of alcohol is permitted only with 21 years.
NBA
When NBA Draft 2009 Lawson was selected in 18th position of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but transferred directly to the Denver Nuggets, where he plays today. In the pre-season games, he brought it to an average of 16.5 minutes to 7.5 points with a hit rate of 52.9 % from the field.
