The Tynecastle Stadium is a football stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland. The stadium is the venue for the Scottish football club Heart of Midlothian. In the system only seating is available and the capacity is 18,008 spectators; making it the seventh largest stadium in Scotland. In 1932, still valid today, attendance record was set with 53 396 spectators at the game of Hearts against Rangers. From the supporters, the stadium " Tynie " called.

History

The stadium was built in 1886 and is one of the oldest stadiums in Scotland. The first team were the Bolton Wanderers, who lost against Hearts with 1:4. 1892 was the first international match against Wales held in this stadium. Scotland won 6-1. Only 1,200 spectators wanted to see the game as many viewers thought the game would have been postponed due to a snowstorm. In the same year the South Stand was covered. 1927 was given the BBC permission for radio transmissions from the interior.

In 1954, the venue was rebuilt and becoming the first stadium in Scotland, which was built entirely of concrete. As part of construction activities, the capacity was increased to 54 359 spectators. For security reasons, only 49,000 spectators intake were granted at top games. In 1957, floodlights were installed. More recently, the field of play has been adapted to the UEFA standard, leaving only 18,008 spectators.
