Type certificate

The type-certificate (german type certificate - the document; type certification - for the process) or single piece admission is the official approval ( certification) of an aircraft to air traffic. It is carried out by the aviation authority of the State in which the aircraft is registered later. As part of the authorization will be reviewed whether the underlying building regulations have been met.

In Germany Type Certificates for civil aircraft employed by the Federal Aviation Authority, with the approval of EASA or by this are directly issued. For the type certification of military aircraft and their equipment, the Bundeswehr Technical Centre 61 is responsible.

The term component pattern refers to the validity for construction or model series ( airplane type / types ).

Type Certificates are also needed for engines, propellers, appliances and equipment. They help to ensure the safety of air traffic. The air traffic licensing regulations ( LuftVZO ) regulates the details of the type certificate, in particular, which aviation units require a certificate of airworthiness. The pattern approval is based on the airworthiness requirements.

In addition to the type certificate, a single aircraft needs a so-called Luftttüchtigkeitszeugnis to be allowed to participate in air traffic.
