Tyson Strachan

Tyson Strachan ( born October 30, 1984 in Melfort, Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since 2013 in the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League under contract and playing in parallel for their farm team in Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.

Career

Tyson Strachan began his career as a hockey player with the Vernon Vipers, where he was active in the Canadian Junior Football League British Columbia Hockey League in the season 2002/ 03. He was then selected in the fifth round in the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 as a total 137 players from the Carolina Hurricanes, for whom he never played, however. Instead, he attended from 2003 to 2007, the Ohio State University, for their hockey team he played in parallel in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. With his team he won the 2004 CCHA Championship. Towards the end of the 2006/07 season was the defense for Carolina Farm Team Albany River Rats his debut in professional hockey, as he stood in a game in the American Hockey League on the ice. From 2007 to 2011 he ran in the AHL for the Peoria Rivermen. He also played in this period a total of 67 times for their cooperation partners St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League as well as in 41 games for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL.

On 12 July 2011 Strachan signed a contract as a free agent with the Florida Panthers. In the season 2011/12 the Canadians completed a total of 17 games for the Panthers in the NHL, scoring a goal and two assists. Mostly, however, he ran on for their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage.
