Tzanata

Tzanata (Greek Τζανάτα (n. pl. ), Also Dzanata ) is a town in the district of Elios - Pronni the community and island Kefalonia in Greece. The village has 158 inhabitants (as of 2011).

1991 excavations the remains of a monumental tholos tomb was discovered from Mycenaean times under the direction of archaeologist Lazaros Kolonas, which were excavated and analyzed in the Campaigning 1992-1994. The lower diameter of the tomb was 6.80 meters, a side dromos led to the grave chamber. The Tholos was built on the site of an earlier grave, which was about 1350 collapsed. Building materials from the old building were reused. The burials were made in stone cists. In the center of Tholos was a richly furnished grave of a local ruler. Although grave goods have been robbed in antiquity, but due to the still existing objects located behind a use of 14 BC to the 11th century BC prove. The archäölogischen explorations of the Tholos and a nearby rectangular building where the bones were discovered by at least 72 burials, brought some significant finds -a-days, as painted pottery, terracotta figures, a gold necklace, pearl, engraved seal stones, a miniature double ax of gold and a pair of golden bull horns that come from a rhyton.
