The Tzu Chi University (Chinese慈济 大学) is a private university in Hualien in the Republic of China ( Taiwan).

Foundation

The university was founded in 1994 as " Tzu Chi College of Medicine " by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, founder of Tzu Chi Foundation. In 2000 it was renamed to Tzu Chi University.

Master Cheng Yen has dedicated her life to the needy, because she understands illness as the root of the pain and the mother of poverty. Therefore, they justified the construction of a hospital, which is affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine today.

The Tzu Chi University was built in eastern Taiwan to enhance the medical care and educational opportunities in the region. In addition, the university is to encourage students to get involved and help others.

Medical Education
