Tzvia Greenfeld

Tzvia Greenfeld (Hebrew צביה גרינפלד; born 1945 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli politician and was a member of the Knesset for the Meretz Jachad. She was the first female ultra-Orthodox Knesset member.

Greenfeld was born in 1945 in Jerusalem. She grew up in an ultra-Orthodox family and attended the Bet Yaakov schools. She earned a master's degree in philosophy and history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and received his doctorate in political philosophy later.

In 2006, she opted for a political career. She was elected on the sixth place of the Meretz list for the 17th Knesset. The Meretz won only five seats in the 2006 election. On 4 November 2008 she released Yossi Beilin, who wanted to retire from politics, and became the first ultra-Orthodox women in the Knesset. Before the 2009 elections, she won again in sixth place on the Meretz list, but could not move back to the Knesset, since her party won only three seats in the election in February 2009.
