Uathach

Uathach [' uaθax ] is the name of a legendary figure from Celtic mythology of Ireland.

Mythology

Uathach is the ugly and violent daughter of the warrior Queen Scathach of Alba (Scotland). In the story Tochmarc emirs ( " The wooing of Emer " ) defends the entrance to the castle of her mother against Cú Chulainn, because this wants to learn the martial secrets Scathachs to marry Emer allowed. Cú Chulainn overwhelmed but breaks her finger, kills to help hurrying servants and must be servant of Scathach in atonement itself. Uathach falls in love with him and tells him how he could outwit her mother. Finally, he achieved by Scathach that her daughter will leave him without dowry - this means that this intercourse takes place with no contractual obligations. Uathach and Scathach also try to keep him from fighting Aife, but this does not succeed. After a year of apprenticeship Cú Chulainn returns to Ulster.
