Ubbergen

Ubbergen ( listen? / I ) is a Dutch municipality of the province of Gelderland and had on 1 January 2013, according to the CBS 9508 inhabitants.

Location and economic

The community Ubbergen lies on the south bank of the river Waal, between the city of Nijmegen and Millingen on the Rhine. It is part of Stadsregio Arnhem -Nijmegen. It consists of two very different landscapes. Riverside are the polders of the duffel, with meadows, brick and ponds created by their activities ( " tichelgaten "). Further south lies the wooded, popular with tourists hills (10-90 m above sea. NN ), with some clear brook. ( Beek = Bach). This forest passes into the realm Klever forest beyond the German border.

In the community there are still brick factories (including in Kekerdom ) and Beek also laundries. In the polder much cattle is kept. The wonderful location there is a significant tourism, and since the late 19th century to live here many, many wealthy commuters who work in nearby Nijmegen. Beek and Ubbergen be strongly influenced by villas from the period 1875-1920.

History

Leuth was 891 urkündlich mentioned. Beek was until 1348 part of the country Kleve Kranenburg. Leuth and Kekerdom belonged until after the Congress of Vienna to the Prussian Office duffel and were given until later in exchange for Schenkenschanz to the Netherlands. The places in the river lowlands were struck until the 19th century, often by flooding. From Ubbergen from began in February 1945 in the Second World War Canadian soldiers launched an offensive against the area around Cleves and Rees.

Attractions

  • The lovely polder landscape belongs in part to the nature development area " Gelderland De Poort ".
  • The tiny Persingen has a quaint village church.
  • In the forest areas can make beautiful walks, including to the viewing panel, the " Klabauterbaum " and on the " Duivelsberg " ( Devil's Mountain ). Especially in the winter you have this beautiful vistas in the lowlands.
  • For children of primary school age there is the amusement park Tivoli in Beek. Some of the play equipment is covered, so that the children can recover even in the rain.
  • The " tichelgaten ", resulting from the extraction of clay for brick- ponds and lakes are popular with anglers from all over the region.
  • At the Tourist Information Office ( " VVV " ) of Nijmegen you can get leaves with walking and cycling routes in the community Ubbergen.
  • One of the daily distances of Nijmeegse Vierdaagse performs Ubbergen.

Ubbergen has several hotels, including at Berg en Dal even a larger luxury hotel. Also, there are several campsites.
