Ubľa

Ubľa (Hungarian Ugar - to 1902 and from 1939 to 1945 Ublya ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia with a population of 805 (as at 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the valley of the river Ublianka, between the mountains Bukovské Hills and the foothills Beskydské predhorie, about 3 km from the border with Ukraine and about 25 km from Snina and Sobrance.

The border crossing Ubľa - Maly Berezny ( Малий Березний ) at Welykyj Berezny ( Великий Березний ) is located southeast of the village.

History

Ubľa was first mentioned in 1567 as Oblia and belonged to the estate of Humenné. From the 17th to the 19th century, the village was owned by the families Szirmay, Dernáth, Schmidegh and 1846 Lobkovitz. 1828 were counted 126 inhabitants and 943 inhabitants, who were employed in forestry, livestock and as a manufacturer of clay bricks and wickerwork.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Semplin place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia or Slovakia today. From 1939 to 1944, the town belonged after the Slovak -Hungarian War as Ublya to Hungary.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Ubľa 808 inhabitants, of whom 485 Slovaks, 223 Ruthenians, Ukrainians, 60, 11 Roma, Czechs and seven each one German and Magyar. 20 inhabitants did not respond. 420 inhabitants confessed to the Orthodox Church, 308 inhabitants Jehovah the Greek Catholic Church, 34 inhabitants to the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church of the six residents and two residents to the witness. 15 residents were non-denominational and 23 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
