Uch

Uch, Uch Sharif, Uch; is a historical city in Pakistan. It is located about 75 km southwest of Bahawalpur in Punjab province.

Formerly, the city was at the confluence of the rivers Indus and Chenab, today it is around 100 km away. She was in medieval India a major center and a stronghold of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century. In Uch Sharif are the mausoleums of Bibi Jawindi ( erb 1498), Halim and Jalaluddin Bukhari Baha'al - which are regarded as masterpieces of Islamic architecture and are on the recommended list as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

History

It is believed that BC Alexander the Great founded a city named Alexandria at the former confluence of the Chenab and Indus in 325. Greek historians assume, however, that the city was named Oxydracae.

In 710 Muhammad Qasim conquered 'm the city during the Muslim period Uch was one of the centers of Islamic studies in South Asia.

There are in Uch various mausoleums of famous mystics ( Sufis ), the mosque and the mausoleum of Syed Jalaluddin Bukhari and his family. In addition, there are several domed tombs; the first to have been built for Baha 'al- Halim by his pupil, the Suharwardiya Sufi saint Jahaniyan Jahangasht (1307-1383), the second for his great-granddaughter, Bibi Jawind, in 1494, and the third for its architect.
