UD Lanzarote

UD Lanzarote ( officially: Unión Deportiva Lanzarote ) is a Spanish football club, currently in group 2 Segunda División B, the third-highest league level, playing. The club is based in Arrecife on Lanzarote. Play their home games, the club was founded in 1970 in the 7,000 -seat Ciudad Deportiva de Lanzarote.

History

Unión Deportiva Lanzarote was founded in August 1970. In its beginnings, the team still played on picón ( volcanic granules ) until they finally moved on FIFA -approved artificial turf.

In his first competitive match 1970/71 season the team won the Segunda Regional Insular Championship ( second regional league) and for many years they battled their way through local and Canarian leagues until, in 1980, her debut in the fourth national league gave; The first season ended with a fifth place and at the same time they tried for the first time in the Cup - after a 0-0 draw against their neighbors UD Las Palmas, Lanzarote was torn literally in the return match with 0:5.

In the 1998/99 season they got thanks to their 3.Platzes for the first time in the Segunda División B. Staying in the league, however, was only briefly; in the following season they went directly from again.

From 2000 /01 to Lanzarote strengthened its position in the third league. In a cup match against CD Tenerife shot local legend Maciot a hat-trick in a 5-1 surprise victory before 5,000 fans astonished Lanzarote. The reward was a meeting with first division side Real Madrid with players like Raúl González Blanco, Luís Figo and Zinedine Zidane; After the early lead of the favorite Oscar Vladamir equalized, thus securing his place in the history of football, but the club ultimately lost anyway with 1:3.

Lanzarote wanted to establish themselves in the years 2002/ 03 and finished the season in 3rd place, which they reached the play-off round for the second league for the first time. In Cup 2004/ 05 Lanzarote Mallorca defeated 2-1, followed by the launch of another top teams Athletic Bilbao, also 2-1. From 2004-2009 Lanzarote ended up getting in the middle of the league, until they descended in the season 2009/10 as Twentieth.
