Uday Prakash

Uday Prakash ( born January 1, 1952 in a village in Madhya Pradesh ) is an Indian writer and television producer.

After he had lost his parents early, he grew up in a small town in the state of Madhya Pradesh. He studied Hindi literature, worked in the local cultural administration and then switched to journalism. Nine years he worked for the weekly Hindi news magazine Dinmaan the Times of India. Later he took over editorial responsibility even at the Sunday Mail and the monthly Eminence.

His poems, novels, and essays have been included in numerous anthologies and translated into many Indian as well as in European languages.

From him are in English translation the following books before: Short Shorts Long Shots, a collection of angry short stories against corruption, institutional irresponsibility, social injustice and human arrogance, Rage Revelry and Romance, short stories that deal with the dilemma of post-colonial societies, and the novel The Girl with the Golden Parasol (2008). Many of his works were adapted for the stage and performed by renowned national and international ensembles.

For television, the author himself has produced a number of critical documentaries and docu-dramas.

He lives and works in New Delhi.
