Udege people

The Udehe (also Udegen or Udege of Russian Удэгейцы, Udegeizy ) are an indigenous people in southeastern Siberia.

They inhabit the area along the Amur and Ussuri rivers his right side, Anjui and Gur ( Chungari ) in the regions belonging to Russia Primorye and Khabarovsk. The Udehe speak udeheische language, which belongs to the Tungusic language family. 2002 were still alive in 1657 Udegen in the region, a slight increase from the 1970 census ( 1500). Their religion is characterized shamanistic. A relatively large Udehe settlement is Gwasjugi, about 120 km southeast of Khabarovsk.

In the second half of the 19th century. migrated some Udehe groups, especially those who had been sinicized during the Qing dynasty in part, on the Sikhote -Alin and the Ussuri to China. There their descendants (supposedly around 500 people ) as Qiakala (恰卡拉 人) are known. They settle in the southeast of Heilongjiang province, in northeastern Jilin province and the manjurischen nationality are officially assigned.
