Udinese Calcio is a football club from the Friulian town of Udine in northern Italy.

History

Udinese Calcio SpA as registered, ie a " Società per azioni ", a joint stock company, which is output in Italian football and there. The club Udinese Calcio arose from the Società Udinese di Ginnastica e Scherma. 1896, at the first, then still unofficial Italian Championships, the Società Udinese di Ginnastica e Scherma won the title, which is, however, not recognized since the championships were held by the Federazione di Ginnastica, the Italian Gymnastics Federation. Only in 1898 was won by Genoa the first Italian championship.

Winning the Mitropa Cup 1980 Great successes of the club have hardly observed, and is the most important item. In addition, Udinese so far only won trophies and competitions in the youth field or in lower leagues (Series B, Series C). A stir Udinese Calcio however made ​​in the 1980s, as one Franco Causio, who was World Champion in 1982 with Italy, and the Brazilian superstar Zico committed.

In 1986, the Italian entrepreneur Pozzo family took over the club. Since the season 1995/96 Udinese plays continuously in the Serie A and was able to qualify in the following years regularly for the UEFA Cup in the 1997/98 season even with the third place. Thanks to the fourth table space in the 2004/05 season the club was allowed in the Champions League qualifiers and managed two victories against Sporting Lisbon for the first time a place in the UEFA Champions League. Successful for Udinese Calcio was the UEFA Cup season 2008/ 09: The group stage was completed before Tottenham Hotspur, NEC, Spartak Moscow and Dinamo Zagreb in the first place. After Udinese had also penetrated against Lech Poznan and Zenit St Petersburg, the club reached the quarter- finals of the competition, but where he failed to Werder Bremen.
