Udo Steiner

Udo Steiner ( born September 16, 1939 in Bayreuth ), was from 1995 to 2007 Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court.

Steiner grew up in Franconia. After graduating from high school in 1958 in Erlangen, he took up the study of law in Erlangen, Saarbrücken and Cologne. Steiner in 1965 his doctorate with a thesis on constitution making and constituent power of the people; 1972 and his habilitation with the subject Public Administration by Private.

In 1973, Steiner was University Professor of Public Law at the Universities of Erlangen, Göttingen, Bielefeld and Regensburg, 1976-1977 Dean of the Law Faculty in Bielefeld and 1988-1990 Dean of the Law Faculty in Regensburg. In the years 1976 to 1979 Steiner also worked as a judge at the Administrative Court in the next office. Steiner is married since 1967 and has four children.

As of 13 October 1995, Steiner was a member of the first Senate of the Federal Constitutional Court and also teaches at the University of Regensburg. He has always in the winter semester at a lecture about the public construction law. At the close of September 30, 2007 ended because of having reached the age limit of 68 years, his tenure at the Federal Constitutional Court. His successor Ferdinand Kirchhof was chosen.

On 1 February 2008 he was appointed by the Deutsche Bahn AG as ombudsman for victims and survivors of railway accidents. He succeeds in this function Otto Ernst Krasney who held the position in accordance with the ICE misfortune of Eschede from 1998. He is currently the chairman of the tribunal of the Bundesliga.
