Ueda, Nagano

Ueda (Japanese上 田 市, -shi ) is a city in the east of Nagano Prefecture in the center of the Japanese main island of Honshu. The territory of the present town of Ueda since March 6, 2006 comprises the old city Ueda and the formerly independent municipalities Maruko, Sanada and Takeshi. In the city there is the Tokida Campus of Shinshu University.

Ueda is located in the northeast of Nagano Prefecture between Matsumoto and Nagano prefectural capital. From Nagano Ueda is about 40 km away. The distance to Tokyo is about 190 km. Since the 1998 Winter Olympics, the city has a connection to the Shinkansen network through the route Tokyo - Nagano.

Geography

The city is located in the Japanese Alps, and at an average altitude of 456 meters above the sea level. North and south of the inhabited urban area there are up to 2000 meters high mountain ranges, some of which are designated as national parks.

Through the territory of the Shinano ( Chikuma ) flows in an east -west direction. Numerous other rivers, the city area is very rich in water. The area is rich in mountain forests.
