UEFA Euro 1984 qualifying

At the qualification for Euro 1984 in France, 32 national teams which were divided into seven groups involved. In three groups of four teams playing in four groups of five teams against each other. The group winners qualify for the European Championship 1984. France qualified automatically as hosts and completed the field of eight teams. The qualification was played out in the years 1982 and 1983.

It was the two-point rule. For a victory, there were two points, one point for a draw, 0 points for a defeat.

Germany could only qualify on the basis of goal difference against Northern Ireland. If - as in subsequent EM qualifications - counted the direct comparison, Northern Ireland would have been qualified since the Northern Irishman won both games against Germany 1-0.
