Uerkheim (Swiss German: Üerke, ʏərkχə ) is a municipality in the district of Zofingen in the canton of Aargau. It is located east of the main town in the district Uerke. On 1 January 2011, the merger of Uerkheim was planned with the neighboring town of Zofingen. Geography

The village is located in the central portion of the Uerkentals wherein the flat valley floor is nowhere wider than 250 meters. History

The first mention of Urtihun place in the year 893 in a toboggan interest of the woman Minster in Zurich. The village name comes from the Old High German (ze ) Urtichun and means " at / on the Urticha ", where the river name old European origin seems to be and as "the Bubbly " can be translated. The village part Hinterwil was first mentioned in 1259 as Willon. In the Middle Ages Uerkheim lay in the territory of the Counts of Lenzburg, from 1173 in that the counts of Kyburg.
