UFRaw

UFRaw is a free program for reading, editing, and converting image files present in the raw format of digital cameras.

Use

UFRaw offers a standard three different types of user interfaces:

  • Ufraw -batch is from the batch processing of images, for example, from a shell script; In addition to the raw data files it can also read the UFRaw own parameter files.
  • Ufraw gimp -plugin is an image input plugin for the free GIMP image editing program that automatically finds use when opening Rohbilddateien; its surface is similar to the standalone version of UFRaw, internally it is based on the generation of a UFRaw parameter file, which is then passed to Gimp and processed. This feature will be available only from version 0:18 for Linux and Mac OS, but not for Windows. Windows users who want to use Gimp can save the edited picture as a JPG file and then open it with Gimp.
  • Ufraw cinepaint -plugin is from the surface and functionally identical to the plugin for GIMP, passes the data to Cinepaint but internally in 16 bits.
  • Ufraw is the Gtk -based standalone version; In addition to the raw data processing can therefore be generated for each image XML-based parameter files which: - time-consuming under circumstances - processing may take place by means ufraw batch later.

Functions

UFRaw is a graphical user interface ( GUI) for DCRaw and reads the raw data files from all digital cameras supported by each version involved. UFRaw has the following features:

  • The main Exif data recording, such as camera model, aperture, exposure, sensitivity, focal length, white balance, lens used, and the date, time, orientation and Location can be viewed.
  • All internal calculations are made of UFRaw in 16 bits, so that the tone jumps occurring in pure 8 -bit processing can be avoided.
  • White balance, exposure, and color space correction (using LittleCMS ) can either be carried out automatically on the basis of the stored by the camera in the Exif data entries or manually.
  • In addition to saturation, and general contrast can be made to the brightness of the image by means of manual curve setting influence.
  • The luminosity of individual color nuances of the image can be selectively and independently strengthen or weaken each other.
  • By means of lensfun database can be corrected lens distortion and vignetting controlled automatically or manually.
  • The channel mixer or different prescribed methods allow the direct conversion of the image to grayscale; This function can also be used in batch mode from ufraw -batch.
  • In addition to the rotation in any increments as well as the horizontal and vertical flipping the image may be cropped.
  • UFRaw contains a wavelet-based noise reduction.
  • Detected hot pixel (permanently lit pixel ) can be removed, and by means of dark - image subtraction, the Bildschrauschen be further reduced.
  • The finished processed and converted image can be losslessly stored as a JPEG file with a color depth of 16 bit PNG, PPM, TIFF or lossy with 8 bits.
  • Instead of the final image, or additionally, a UFRaw parameter file can be saved that contains all the settings and can be used for batch processing or conversion of multiple raw images with the same specifications.
