Ufuk Uras

Mehmet Ufuk Uras (* 1959, Üsküdar - Istanbul) is a Turkish politician, economist and Member of Parliament. He is the former Chairman of the Party of Freedom and Solidarity ( ODP ). Currently he is a deputy of Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi (BDP ).

Biography

Uras decided Anatolian High School Kadıköy and studied at the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University, where he also received his doctorate. Until he was elected in July 2007 as deputy from Istanbul, Uras worked at the Faculty of Economics as a lecturer in political science and international relations. In addition to his teaching, he was editor of the İktisat Dergisi (Journal of Economics ) and Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Economics ( IFMC ) and the Trade Union of Teachers ( ÖES ).

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, he managed to get elected with 81,486 votes as an independent candidate for parliament. His campaign has been supported by many artists, socialist intellectuals, other left organizations and supporters of the Demokratik Partisi Toplum. Soon after the election, he again entered the ODP and was elected chairman. But in June 2009 he stepped back out from ODP. After a prohibition against the Demokratik Partisi Toplum on 11 December 2009 occurred in 19 MPs from the BDP. Uras became the 20th member of the BDP in parliament and enabled so that the BDP could form a group.
