Ugo De Censi

Ugo De Censi Scarafoni SDB ( born January 26, 1924 in Polaggia, Berbenno di Valtellina, Italy) is a Catholic religious cleric.

Life

Ugo De Censi joined the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and studied Catholic theology and political science. On March 8, 1951 he was ordained a priest in Milan Cathedral by Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster, OSB. He was almost twenty years in a reform school of the Salesians in Arese in the province of Milan.

In 1965 he participated in the XIX in Rome. General Chapter of the Salesians in part and dealt with the mission work in Latin America. From 1967 he was involved in the construction of a youth center in the Brazilian Poxoreo, as a result, he founded the charity Operazione Mato Grosso (OMG ). In 1976 he left Italy and was a pastor in Chacas ( Territorialprälatur Huari ) in the Peruvian highlands province of Ancash. In 1979 he founded a school in the slums for wood carving, to education, room and board to offer the young people. He also founded the Oratorio delle Ande, to give children and young people with internships opportunities for further development. In 1994, he was behind the establishment of the Assumption hospital, which was funded primarily by donations from the Operazione Mato Grosso from the Archdiocese of Milan, and consecrated by Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini. He is currently implemented homes for orphaned and abandoned children in Peru and initiated numerous infrastructure projects.
