Ugo Poletti

Ugo Cardinal Poletti ( born April 19, 1914 in Omegna, Province of Verbano -Cusio -Ossola, Italy, † February 25, 1997 in Rome) was archbishop of Spoleto, and a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Ugo Poletti received his philosophical and theological education in the seminary of Novara and received on 29 June 1938, the sacrament of Holy Orders. He then worked as a parish minister and chancellor of the seminary of Novara.

From 1954 to 1958 he worked in the administration of the diocese of Novara. In 1958 he became Pope Pius XII. appointed Titular Bishop of Medeli and Auxiliary Bishop of Novara. The episcopal ordination was Poletti on 14 September in 1958 by Vincenzo Gilla Gremigni, the then Bishop of Novara. He participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council and in 1967 Archbishop of Spoleto.

1969 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Aemona and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome. On March 5, 1973, he took Ugo Poletti as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Ambrogio e Carlo in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him to the Cardinal Vicar. Ugo Poletti represented the Pope on several occasions as Papal Legate. He participated in the conclaves part in August and October 1978. In 1991 he resigned for reasons of age from all his offices. He died on 25 February 1997 after a heart attack at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

Cardinal Poletti has contributed substantially to the foundation of the Priestly Fraternity of the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo ( FSCB ).

He is said to have been a member of the Masonic lodge P2, according to a list of Italian journalist Mino Pecorelli.
