Ugolino di Nerio

Ugolino di Nerio (also called Ugolino da Siena, * ca 1280, probably in Siena; † ca 1349 ) was an Italian painter who painted in the style of the Sienese school.

Life

His craft he learned probably Segna di Bonaventura at Duccio di Buoninsegna, who died in Siena in 1319. Di Nerio itself is considered from 1315 to 1327 active as a painter, where he is already out in 1315 as an independent master. . Artistic creation

One of his first works as an independent artist was born in Florence in the Palazzo Pitti in 1315 under the name Madonna Contini Bonaccossi. His main works were the images in the churches of Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella in Florence. The altarpiece of Santa Croce is his only signed work, which he signed with Ugolinus DE Senis ME PINXIT 1325. The original drawing was lost in 1566, when Giorgio Vasari replaced the work from a private, but he drew the dedication on. The redesigning parts of the work were lost, others can be found today in various art collections in the world again.
