Uherské Hradiště

Uherské Hradiště ( German Hungarian Hradisch, Hungarian Magyarhradis ) is a city in the southeast of the Czech Republic. It has 25 393 inhabitants and is located in Zlín in the Moravian Slovakia.

Geography

The village lies in a plane on an island on the left bank of the March ( Morava ). To the south runs the Olšava and its old river Stara Olšava.

History

The city was founded in 1257 on an island in March as Nový Veligrad by Ottokar II. You received this transfer the marketing rights of Veligrad - Staré Město and Kunovice.

At the beginning of the 14th century, the royal city was named Hradiště, in the 17th century by the addition Uherské ( Hungarian) has been extended. The city was besieged 1469-1473 by Matthias Corvinus of Hungary in vain.

Until 1749 the privileged hunters of Stříbrnice exercised the executioner office. 1780, the fort was abandoned.

In Old Austria -Hungarian Hradisch was the seat of the District Commission of the eponymous district. In 1900 lived in the village of 5137 inhabitants mainly Czech and German and 937 Jews.

Uherské Hradiště is the center of Moravian Slovakia. The historic core of the city is completely protected monument.

The station Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště is on the line from Vienna to Krakow the former state railways (now Railway Břeclav - Petrovice u Karviné ), from there branches off the railway line Kunovice - Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště over the station Uherské Hradiště after Kunowitz of the former Austro- Hungarian State Railways and closes on the railway line Brno- Vlárský průsmyk to in Kunovice station.

Education

In Uherské Hradiště settled the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management to the Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
