UHF (rock band)

UHF is a Portuguese rock band.

History

In Almada under the name Flor da Pele Á (English about: Under the skin as possible, even blank lying nerves) founded in 1977, they announced on November 20, 1978 already under the name UHF their first concert, along with the bands Aqui d'el rock, Minas e Armadilhas and Os Faiscas in the Lisbon bar É. In 1979 they released their first 7 ", the 3- song EP Jorge Morreu (German: Jorge died ). Together with Rui Veloso they have become an important engine of the emerging boom of rock music in Portugal. They played especially in the Greater Lisbon along with numerous foreign bands, about 1979 as the opening act at concerts of Elvis Costello or Dr. Feelgood, or 1980 as the opening act of the Ramones, and The Skids, The Tourists, original mirrors and 999 at the 1st Festival rock in Cascais before they appeared in 1981 and the Dexys Midnight Runners Téléphone. For the formation of the band Xutos & Pontapés UHF were significant by lending them instruments, rehearsing with them and gave further assistance.

The 1980 released single Cavalos de Corrida ( dt: Racehorses ) reached first place in the Portuguese singles chart, and the following album Á Flor da Pele reached gold status. In 1982, the band toured through France and Germany, and again in late 1987.

Was the band at the time of its greatest popularity in the early 1980s influenced mainly by punk and powerpop, rock and hard rock was increasingly the clearest influence of the band. From 1988, the popularity of the band grew again, and she also played a larger scale, such as the first rock festival do Benfica in 1988, along with Bonnie Tyler, Saxon and Bryan Adams. His supporters of the football club Benfica pushed the lead singer of the band, and also with a club dedicated to the single and two just such albums, one of which in 2005 came up in the charts. 1994 on UHF tribute project Filho da Madrugada involved ( dt: Children of the Dawn ) for José Afonso, and they released since then a number of recordings. The last two albums porque? (English: Why ) and Ao Norte Unplugged ( dt: To the north unplugged) reached the charts.

The band, who mainly sings in Portuguese since its inception, employed in their most critical and partly poetical, predominantly written by singer Ribeiro texts, with a wide range of topics, so the dangers of drug abuse, the false promises of a materialistic society, and the multiple human weaknesses. UHF are considered some of the most influential groups in rock music history in Portugal.
