Ühtri ( German Jüttri ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Käina ( Käina vald ). It is the second largest Estonian island of Hiiumaa ( German Dagö ).

Description and History

Ühtri today has 24 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). The village is located 21 kilometers from the island capital Kärdla ( Kertel ) away.

The most famous son of the town is the avant-garde Estonian artist Ülo Sooster (1924-1970), who was born on the farm belonging to Ühtri Pendi talu. At the site of the defunct homestead is to see a small monument. It is titled Kivikadakas ( " stone juniper "). The juniper his island home was one of the most popular object of the artist.
