UIC 568

As UIC cable, the cable is called, which is coupled usually within the car transitions from passenger trains and used to transfer data.

Standard UIC 568

The 13- wire cable with plug according to UIC 568 is a standard of UIC connector cable, to be replaced with the data and control commands between the locomotive and the coaches of a train. This is, for example, announcements, control of Zugzielanzeigers or door control.

The substandard locomotives usually have at each end two sockets, the cable will be continued from car to car.

Development UIC 558

Attempts have been made, this cable for a complete communication bus ( Train Communication Network TCN) to use, which, however, showed that the backward compatibility sake with non- rebuilt cars a 18 -pin cable is preferable when using. This led to the development of the UIC 558- cable. The additional contacts 14 and 15 are used by various railway companies for the face-selective door control and the contacts 17 and 18 as WTB train bus of the TCN. The wires number 17 and 18 must be carried out for as twisted pair with shield. A 13-pin connector is connected to a 18 -pin socket and transmits the signals of the 13-pin version.
