Uig is the name of a bay on the northwest coast of the island of Lewis and Harris, the largest island of the Outer Hebrides. It is at the mouth of the open Atlantic, 940 meters wide, and extends over 3.4 km inland. The name derives from the Norse Vik, meaning " bay " means. Bhaltos is the largest village in Uig, and has about 35 inhabitants. There are also smaller villages.

In 1831 there discovered a shepherd, a larger number of buried chess pieces, which can be visited as the Lewis chessmen at the British Museum in London and the Scottish National Museum in Edinburgh today. The figures are usually carved from walrus ivory and probably originate from Norway ( 1150-1200 AD).

Uig is also the birthplace of Brahan Seer, who became known as " Gaelic Nostradamus " in the 16th century.
