Ukiah is the capital of Mendocino County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with a population of 15,500 (as of 2006).

Geography

Ukiah is happening in east north-south direction from the Russian River a few hundred meters. The geographic coordinates are: 39.09 ° N, 123.12 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 19.2 km ².

History

The original name of the area was Yokayo came from the Pomo and meant deep valley or southern valley. This was converted by the Anglo-Americans later on the spelling of Ukiah. In 1856 the first settlers came to the area. His name was Samuel Lowry. The official founding date of the village is 1876.
