Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg

The archeparchy Winnipeg (Latin: Archieparchia Vinnipegensis Ucrainorum ) is a location in Canada archeparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, based in Winnipeg.

History

In the years 1891-1893 the first immigrations Ukrainian emigrants began to Canada. A rural and local focus was the modern province of Manitoba with their city Winnipeg. As 1896 reached the second wave of immigration from the Ukraine in Canada, 27 families founded the first community in Winnipeg. From this emerged between 1898-1915 another 15 churches and parishes.

On June 15, 1912 was by Pope Pius X, with the Apostolic Constitution Officium supremi, the foundation for archeparchy Winnipeg - down - first as Apostolic Exarchate Canada. On January 19, 1948, the Apostolic Exarchate Canada were from parts of its territory establishing the built with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolic Exarchate Omnium cuiusvis rite Eastern Canada and Western Canada. The Apostolic Exarchate of Canada was renamed on January 19, 1948 in Apostolic Exarchate Central Canada. On March 10, 1951, the Apostolic Exarchate Central Canada was renamed as Apostolic Exarchate Manitoba.

On November 3, 1956, the Apostolic Exarchate Manitoba was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Hanc Apostolicam to archeparchy and renamed archeparchy Winnipeg.
