Ukrainian Premier League

The Premjer - Liha (Ukrainian Прем'єр - ліга, Premjer - Liha ) is the highest division in the Ukrainian football. The league was founded in 1991 and currently consists of 16 teams. Since 1996, the Wyschtscha Liha and Perscha Liha ( second highest division) of the " Professional Football League " were ( Професіональна футбольна ліга, Professionalna Futbolna Liha, PFL) led. Mode

The 16 teams will play in the course of a season twice against each other; once at home and once away. Thus, each team will play 30 games per season. The season begins in mid- July and ends mid May. Ukrainian Football Federation, however, decided to switch the course of the season from the calendar year to an autumn - spring mode. In the first season, 20 teams were divided into two groups of ten teams that played against each other twice. The two group winners determined in a final Master. In recent years, the number of participants varied between 14, 16 and 18 in the last four years, the number of participants leveled off at 16.

With the season 2005/06 was introduced "Golden Game ". If the first two teams are equal on points at the end of the season, a "golden game" between these two teams will be played such. In the very first season was such a game is necessary. Shakhtar Donetsk beat Dynamo Kiev 2-1 after extra time.
